Uttarakhand: Railway land survey starts in Haldwani’s Banbhulpura following apex court directives

Haldwani: Following the Supreme Court’s involvement in the Haldwani railway encroachment case in Uttarakhand, the Railways is commencing a survey of the encroached railway land in Banbhulpura today, as directed by the Court. The police and district administration have made special preparations for this survey, including arranging a heavy force to prevent any violence or disputes during the process.

High Court ordered to remove the encroachment

In Banbhulpura, Haldwani, over 4,000 houses have been constructed by members of the Muslim community on encroached railway land. The High Court had ordered their removal in 2022, but after the case reached the Supreme Court, a new survey of the entire land is now required. This is the same Banbhulpura area where, in February, the administration, municipal corporation, and police team faced stone-pelting, arson, and gunfire while attempting to remove the encroachments.

Railways will carry out the survey and demarcation of its land

Haldwani city Magistrate AP Bajpai stated that the Railways had requested the administration’s cooperation. In response, six teams from various departments have been formed to assist in conducting a comprehensive survey of the structures and land identified by the Railways, starting today. He mentioned that, following the Supreme Court’s instructions, the Railways will carry out the survey and demarcation of its land, with the administration providing support. To ensure the process runs smoothly, a heavy police force will also be deployed.

Supreme Court had directed the railways to survey the land again

Besides giving instructions to the district administration regarding the displacement of the people living there, the Supreme Court had also directed the railways to survey the land again and mark its land. Following the apex court directives, now the railways and the district administration are going to start the survey work. To ensure a safe survey process, heavy force has been arranged to avoid violence or dispute during the survey.
