Dehradun: With an aim to improve the policing, Uttarakhand police have sent a proposal to the state government seeking fresh fixation of the strength of the police station and police outposts as per the current requirement of the policing. The existing sanctioned strength and infrastructure of the police station and police outposts is not in match with growing population. So, it also creates problems in better interaction between the police and the people.

Currently, the total strength of the police officers and police personnel is around 35,000. Several police outposts were upgraded to their new status as police stations across the state.

New police stations will be set up

Following the state government’s approval to the proposal, new police stations will be set up in the newly populated areas. It will also increase the digital facilities in the police stations. The availability of digital facilities at the police stations will enhance the speed of registration of FIRs, tracking of the cases, and disposal of people’s complaints.

Emphasis on community policing

After the revision of sanctioned strength, adequate police force will be deployed at the police stations. Police personnel will be recruited for this purpose, besides ensuring proper training for the existing staff members. The Uttarakhand police is also under a plan to give emphasis on community policing.

Uttarakhand IG (Law and Order) Nilesh Anand Bharne said a proposal to sanction fresh strength of the police station and police outposts has been sent to the state government. The government will take a final decision on it, he further said.
