Nainital: A recent petition in the Nainital High Court sought to safeguard the pristine grasslands, known as Bugyal, in the high Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand from human interference. Specifically, the Dayara Tourism Development Committee filed a petition requesting permission for over 2,500 people to visit Dayara Bugyal in Uttarkashi. However, the High Court granted permission for only 1,500 visitors.
HC restricted the number of visitors
This decision aims to strike a balance between celebrating the upcoming Butter Festival on August 16th and preserving the delicate ecosystem of the Bugyal. Notably, the Nainital court had issued several instructions in the year 2018 to the state government to preserve the Bugyals. Earlier, in its order, the court had banned the movement of more than 200 people in the Bugyals, including night stay. Apart from this, other commercial activities including permanent construction were also banned.
What is Butter festival
Every year in Dayara Bugyal of Uttarkashi, the traditional and religious festival Andhuri Utsav is celebrated on the Sankranti of Bhadrapad month. In which it is necessary for the people of five villages to reach. On this day, Holi is played with milk, butter and whey, which is why it is also called the Butter Festival.
Not more than 200 people are allowed in meadow areas
On the orders of the High Court, the movement of more than 200 people at a time in the Bugyals of Uttarakhand has been banned to restrict human activities. So, a situation of confusion had arisen regarding this festival. In such a situation, the Dayara Tourism Development Committee, which organizes the Butter Festival, submitted a petition in the Nainital High Court to allow more people for this festival.
After the festival, clean the place and present its pictures in the court
While hearing the case on Tuesday, 6 August, the High Court had asked the petitioner that how many people will participate in the Butter Festival? Give its list to the High Court. Today on Wednesday, the petitioner told the court that around 2,500 people will participate in this but the High Court allowed only 1,500 people to go. The court has also said that the government should deploy forest department and police personnel to maintain order. Also, after the festival is over, clean the place and present its pictures in the court.
