Police have been authorized to register cases in these matters

Although such cases typically fall under the health and food safety department, opposition from various social organizations often arises. Therefore, to maintain law and order, the police have been authorized to register cases in these matters as well. Immediate action is required from the police in their respective areas upon receiving such information.

DGP issued the following guidelines

-Hotel and dhaba operators must complete 100% verification of their workers and employees.

-Operators should be encouraged to install CCTV cameras in the kitchen.

-Attention should be paid to such incidents during patrolling.

-From time to time, police should check hotels and dhabas in collaboration with the food safety department.

-In such cases, a case should be filed under the Police Act and Section 274 (food adulteration) of the BNS.

-If there is a possibility of heated altercations or communal clashes, a case may be filed under BNS 196(1) (acts prejudicial to communal harmony) or BNS 299 (insulting religious belief).

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken a firm stance against what he terms “love, land, and spit jihad.” He emphasized the need to preserve the state’s spiritual identity as ‘Devbhoomi’ (Land of Gods) and vowed to take strict action against these culprits. Dhami reiterated that the original form of Uttarakhand must remain intact and that rising cases of land, love, and spit jihad will be dealt with strongly. He has also instructed the administration to thoroughly investigate these issues and ensure strict measures are taken against those responsible.
