Uttarakhand Char Dham yatra: Badrinath portal closing date to be decided on 12 October, day of Vijay Dashami

Dehradun: As the Char Dham pilgrimage in Uttarakhand nears its end, the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) will set the date for the closing ceremony of the Badrinath shrine portals on Vijaya Dashami, October 12. In addition to the Badrinath temple, the dates for closing the portals of the second Kedar, Madhyamaheshwar, and the third Kedar, Tungnath, will also be decided on Vijay Dashami.

Traditionally, the doors of Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham close on Bhaiya Dooj, while the doors of Gangotri shrine close on Annakut Govardhan Puja. On October 12, in the Shri Badrinath Dham temple premises, the date for closing the doors will be ceremonially determined after the Panchang calculation. The program will commence at 11:30 am, with Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) President Ajendra Ajay announcing the date.

Temple committees will decide the dates for Gangotri and Yamunotri

Dr. Harish Gaur, Media Incharge of the BKTC, stated that the doors of Kedarnath shrine traditionally close on Bhaiya Dooj after Diwali. Likewise, the doors of Yamunotri Dham also close on this day, while Gangotri shrine’s doors close a day earlier on Annakut Govardhan Puja, during the Abhijit Muhurta. This year, Bhaiya Dooj falls on November 3 and Annakut Govardhan Puja falls on November 2. The respective temple committees will announce the closing dates for Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham separately.

Hemkund Sahib will close on October 10

The doors of the holy Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib will close on October 10. The dates for closing the second Kedar, Madhyamaheshwar, and the third Kedar, Tungnathji, will be announced at the winter seat, Marketeshwar Temple Makkumath, on Vijay Dashami. Additionally, the program for the departure of Panch Mukhi Doli from Kedarnath shrine to the winter seat, Omkareshwar Temple Ukhimath, will be formally announced.

The BKTC has completed preparations for these announcements, which will be made in the presence of various temple authorities and pilgrimage priests. On Vijay Dashami, the date for closing the doors of Badrinath shrine will be announced in the presence of Rawal Amarnath Namboodri, BKTC Vice President Kishore Panwar, In-charge Officer Vipin Tiwari, Dharmadhikari Radhakrishna Thapliyal, Vedpathi Ravindra Bhatt, and other prominent figures.
