Dehradun: Even as the Uttarakhand government is collecting feedback from locals, including intellectuals and farmers, to formulate a stricter land laws, it may adopt a balance approach to attract investors. The government is likely to assess the implications of the possible changes in the existing land law on state investment.
The reports, which the state government received from the districts regarding violation of land laws, show poor implementation of the existing land laws as well as ignorance of rules at ground level in most of cases. Now, the state government’s first challenge is to stop the chances of violation of land laws in future. The government may make necessary amendments in the existing land laws to avoid the chances of violation in future.
Most of the cases of violation of land law in Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital and Almora districts
Most of the cases of violation of land laws have surfaced in the districts like Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, and Almora. As per the existing land law, anyone can purchase a piece of land up to 25 square meters for residential purposes for themselves and their family members without requiring the government permission. The cases of land purchased by more than one member of the same family have reportedly surfaced in the reports of most of the district.
The state government keep a close eye on sales and purchase of lands in the districts
Recently, the state government has directed the Revenue board to regularly collect a report containing information about sales and purchases of lands from every district. The report collected by the board will be sent to the state government. The government will regularly review the reports coming from all the districts.
The government may adopt a balance approach
Sources said the government is trying to identify the loopholes in the existing land laws which are being misused. The government to make amendments in the new law to stop the misuse of the law and violation of the rules. keeping in mind that investors coming in the state are not discouraged by the stringent land laws, the government is likely to adopt a balanced approached.
