Uttarakhand: Acro pilot gets injured during championship in Tehri, rescued by SDRF

Tehri: In the Acro Championship and Air Show-2024, organized in Tehri district from 19 December 2024, SDRF Uttarakhand Police demonstrated their quick response and commitment to safety by rescuing an acro pilot who was injured during the take-off on Thursday. Later, he was taken to All India Institute of Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh through the Heli-ambulance.

The championship has attracted acro pilots from various states, with competitions held at the designated take-off point in Tehri’s Pratapnagar and the landing point in Koti Colony.

Incident during the competition

During a paragliding competition, Hardik Kumar, an acro pilot from Karnal, Haryana, lost his balance at the take-off point in Pratapnagar and suffered injuries upon falling. After flying just 10-15 feet, he lost control and fell down, resulting in injuries to his face and back. SDRF personnel, who had been deployed at the event to ensure the participants’ safety, acted swiftly. They provided immediate assistance, transporting the injured pilot to the main road on a stretcher. From there, he was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Further medical attention

Recognizing the severity of the injuries, the SDRF coordinated the transfer of Hardik Kumar to AIIMS, Rishikesh via helicopter for further treatment. Their prompt actions ensured that the injured pilot received the necessary medical care without delay.

Ensuring safety at the event

The Acro Championship and Air Show-2024 in Tehri district has seen robust participation from acro pilots across multiple states. To safeguard the participants, SDRF personnel have been strategically stationed at both the take-off and landing points.

Acro world championship and aero show 2024 in Tehri

The Acro World Championship and Aero Show 2024 kicked off on Thursday in Tehri, Uttarakhand, with the aim of establishing the Tehri Lake area as a premier hub for Acro Paragliding. This five-day event, organized by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB), will continue until December 23.

International participation

The event features participants from 10 countries, including India, Turkey, the US, Czech Republic, Spain, Russia, Switzerland, France, Iran, Hungary, and Albania. Uttarakhand Government’s Tourism Secretary and CEO of UTDB, Sachin Kurve, announced that a total of 30 foreign acro pilots, 102 Indian SIV pilots, 25 tandem pilots, and five BASE jumpers have registered to participate in the show. “This major event underscores the commitment of the UTDB to promote adventure sports and tourism in Uttarakhand, fostering the growth of the region as a key destination for acro paragliding enthusiasts from around the world” he added.

Prizes and competitions

A significant highlight of the event is the total prize money of Rs 14.50 lakh, which will be awarded to the winners of the Acro Championship and the national-level SIV competition. This substantial prize aims to attract top talent and encourage high levels of competition.
