Rudraprayag: Amid incessant rains and landslide incidents, the cracks started appearing in the fields and houses in villages in Rudraprayag and Tehri districts, so, around 91 families have left their homes and shifted to safer places. Anticipating the Joshimath-like disaster, these villagers have moved to other places.
91 families shifted to safer areas
The risk of landslides and land subsidence has escalated in Rudraprayag and Tehri districts of Uttarakhand. Sixty families from Kinjhani village in the Kyunja valley (Rudraprayag) and 31 families from the Bhilangana block (Tehri) have evacuated their homes and sought refuge in safer areas.
Sixty families are affected in Rudraprayag district
In the lower region of Kinjhani village, cracks have emerged in the fields, resulting in the destruction of agricultural land. Sixteen families affected by the disaster are currently residing in schools, while 44 families have sought refuge with their relatives. Food kits have been provided to the families in the schools. Geologists conducted a geological survey of the village in February of last year, and the situation is currently under study. If the land subsidence and landslide conditions do not improve, the village will require rehabilitation, according to Shyam Singh Rana, ADM of Rudraprayag.
Many houses have developed cracks due to land subsidence in Tehri
In the Ghuttu area of Bhilangana block in Ghansali, Tehri, numerous houses have developed cracks due to land subsidence in Kaniyaz and Bhatgaon Nametok of Mendu Gram Panchayat. Thirty-one families have evacuated their homes and sought refuge in the village primary school. Additionally, the risk is escalating due to soil erosion from the Bhilangana River below Mendu village. The affected residents are calling for relocation and measures to prevent further river erosion.
A geological team is currently surveying the area
According to Apoorva Singh, SDM of Ghansali, people in Kaniyaz and Bhatgaon of Mendu village, whose houses have sustained cracks, have been advised to move to safer locations. Families interested in renting alternative accommodations will receive financial support from the administration, and if necessary, they will also be provided with food grains. A geological team is currently surveying the area.
