Under-construction lintel collapses at Kannauj railway station; many feared trapped

Kannauj: A major accident took place at Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh. Part of an under-construction lintel at the station collapsed. Several people may be feared trapped under the debris.

The incident happened during the development work being carried out under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, a project aimed at modernizing and beautifying railway stations at a significant cost. 

Six workers rescued

Following the collapse, rescue operations began immediately. So far, six workers have been pulled out of the rubble and sent to the hospital for treatment. Efforts to rescue others still trapped are underway, with the help of heavy machinery like JCBs.

Several officials from the local administration and the railways rushed to the spot to oversee the rescue efforts. Minister of State for Social Welfare, Asim Arun, also visited the spot to assess the situation and support the rescue team.

Rescue operation underway

Eyewitnesses reported widespread panic at the station following the collapse, with people rushing to help the injured. Officials on-site stated that many workers might still be trapped under the debris, and search operations are continuing at full speed to locate and rescue them.

The accident took place during the beautification work. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and whether negligence was involved.

Uttar Pradesh CM takes cognizance of accident

Taking cognizance of the accident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed the officials to reach the spot immediately.

Instructing the officials, CM Yogi said that they should immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work and provide proper treatment to the injured. CM Yogi has wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
