New Delhi: In a bid to garner support of Indian-Americans ahead of the upcoming US presidential elections, former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump has pledged to defend the interests of Hindu Americans, asserting that his administration would shield them from what he described as the “anti-religion agenda of the radical left”. Trump also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the US-India relationship, calling Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “good friend”.

Hasina stepped down from her position on August 5, fleeing to India amidst violent protests. Trump also accused President Joe Biden and vice president Kamala Harris of ignoring issues affecting Hindu communities globally and domestically. “It would have never happened on my watch. Kamala and Joe have ignored Hindus across the world and in America. They have been a disaster from Israel to Ukraine to our own Southern Border, but we will Make America Strong Again and bring back Peace through Strength!” Trump wrote further.

In addition to his foreign policy remarks, Trump criticised the economic policies of Harris, claiming they threaten small businesses with “more regulations and higher taxes”. Trump also extended Diwali greetings to all, saying, “Happy Diwali to All. I hope the Festival of Lights leads to the Victory of Good over Evil.”

Harris extends Diwali wishes

Meanwhile, Kamala Harris also extended Diwali greeting to “1 billion people across America and around the world”. Taking to social media platform X, she wrote: “Tonight, we join more than 1 billion people across America and around the world lighting diyas and celebrating the fight for good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and light over darkness. Happy Diwali to everyone celebrating the Festival of Lights!”
