New Delhi: YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan from Hisar in Haryana, may not be cooperating with the investigation agencies during questioning, but the digital forensic examination of her laptop and mobile phone has provided the agencies with vital information.
The forensic probe has revealed suspicious videos on Jyoti’s laptop and mobile phone, showing border areas of Pathankot, Nathu La Pass, and the frontier regions of Arunachal Pradesh. From the location history, photo metadata, and cloud storage of Jyoti’s smartphone and laptop, videos have also been found that reveal information about strategic and border areas in frontier regions.
What call details, deleted videos reveal
The call details on Jyoti’s phone reveal a record of frequent communication with an international number and several numbers associated with the Pakistan Embassy in Delhi. Videos deleted from Jyoti’s laptop and mobile phone have been recovered from cloud storage, which include footage of BSF movements, radar locations, and high-security zone areas.
Data has also been found showing group chats and group memberships involving Danish, an employee of the Pakistan High Commission, and several other fake profiles from Pakistan. Jyoti’s Gmail account has been logged into multiple times from a Pakistani IP address.
As per the metadata records of the videos, Jyoti recorded videos during her visits to Pakistan in June 2023, November 2023, and April 2024 at several locations where ordinary Pakistani citizens are not allowed access.
When Jyoti visited Pahalgam and Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistani officials had asked her to get in touch with a prominent YouTuber from Kashmir. In response, Jyoti facilitated a conversation between them and a YouTuber from Jammu & Kashmir. Jyoti had also recorded and uploaded videos of highly sensitive areas near the Pakistan and China borders on her social media platforms.
