Unfortunate that Narwal is being attacked: NCW

The NCW said in a statement that it is very unfortunate that Narwal is being attacked for voicing her opinion. In a post on X the NCW said, “The attack in Jammu and Kashmir left several Indians dead. In this attack, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal was asked about his religion and then shot dead. The whole country is hurt and angry after this terror attack.”

After the death of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, his wife Himanshi Narwal is being targeted on social media following her statement, is highly condemnable and unfortunate. NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahjatkar in a separate post on social media also condemned the trolling. She said that the opinions of Himanshi Narwal may not have been liked by some, but it was not right to troll her for her opinions. The respect of a woman was important, she concluded.

Death of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal

Lieutenant Vinay Narwal and his wife Himanshi had been married just days before the April 22 Pahalgam attack. They were visiting Kashmir for their honeymoon and happened to be at the Baisaran meadows when terrorists walked up to the duo and after asking the religion gunned down the Navy officer.

The 26-year-old Navy officer was one among the 26 people killed on that fateful day. Following the attack there was nationwide outrage and several people blamed Muslims and Kashmiris for the attack. In her first response since her husband was killed, Himanshi Narwal appealed to the nation to not be hostile towards Muslims or Kashmiri people. She said, “I want the entire country to pray for him (Vinay), that wherever he is, he has found peace. That is all I ask.”

She further said, there is something else I wish to say. I see hatred growing, directed at Muslims and Kashmiris. We do not want this. We only wish for peace-nothing else. She however demanded that the terrorists responsible for the heinous act must be brought to justice.

But her statement led many to troll her. While some made personal remarks against the women, others talked about how she must now be getting her husband’s pension after his death. It was following such statements that the NCW condemned the trolling.
