According to the information, a Muslim couple reached here in front of the Legislative Assembly with their entire family. These people first accused a bank of fraud. A Muslim couple tried to commit suicide, which was foiled by the police.
There was a commotion outside the assembly when all eight members of the family, including women and children, sprinkled kerosene oil on themselves and were about to set themselves on fire, but were stopped by the police. Everyone has been immediately taken into custody. According to the police, they took the desperate step as they were upset with their house being auctioned by the bank to recover the outstanding loan.
The family and couple have been identified as J.J. Shahista Bano, 48, a resident of the city, and her husband Mohammad Munayed Ullah and their family. The video of this sensational incident is going viral on social media. A family member said they had taken a loan of Rs 50 lakh from Bangalore City Cooperative Bank in 2016 to start a ginger farming business. However, his business suffered huge losses and he was finding it difficult to repay the borrowed amount.
According to the information received, bank officials started the auction of the family’s house worth Rs 3 crore for just Rs 1.41 crore. Following a huge uproar, police registered a case against the couple under IPC section 309 for attempt to commit suicide and section 290 for creating public nuisance. The police took an affidavit from the couple and released them after taking them into custody.
