Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing BJP workers in Kolkata, made remarks against Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal on Sunday. Speaking at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Shah said that Mamata government will be “uprooted forever” in 2026. He praised BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari and said that Mamata gets scared whenever Suvendu stands in the assembly.
Amit Shah accused TMC government of promoting violence during elections and said that democracy should run without fear or bloodshed. He urged the people of Bengal to vote peacefully and see the real change for themselves.
He also raised the issue of infiltration from Bangladesh and claimed that the Mamata government has encouraged illegal entry into the country for vote-bank politics. “This won’t continue for long,” he said, promising stricter security if BJP comes to power.
Shah highlighted BJP’s performance over the years and expressed confidence about winning in Bengal. He said, “After the 2017 elections, we prepared for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and did well. In the 2021 Assembly polls, we won 77 seats. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, BJP led in 97 assembly segments and secured over 40% votes in 143 seats. A little more effort, and we’ll be ready to form the government in 2026.”
The Home Minister also referred to Murshidabad riots, claiming it was a “state-sponsored riot” where Hindus were targeted. He alleged that Mamata Banerjee refused to send BSF for help but later they were called in to save people. He questioned Mamata’s stand on the Waqf Bill and asked, “Whom is Mamata trying to protect by opposing it?”
Shah promised Gorkha community that if BJP forms the government, no Gorkha leader will face jail. He also said that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be implemented.
He blamed TMC for incidents in Sandeshkhali and RG Kar and asked, “Which party are these criminals associated with?”
Shah said, “If you want to use PM Modi’s money for development, bring PM Modi’s government to Bengal. To stop infiltration and protect Hindus, give the lotus (BJP) a chance.”
