New Delhi: Three judges – Justice NV Anjaria, Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice AS Chandurkar – on Friday (May 30) were sworn in as the judges of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai administered the oath of office to Justice NV Anjaria, Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice AS Chandurkar.
Prior to taking oath as the judges of the Supreme Court, Justice NV Anjaria was serving as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Justice Vijay Bishnoi was serving as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and Justice AS Chandurkar was serving as a judge in the Bombay High Court.

Law Minister announced their appointment as apex court judges on Thursday
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced their appointment as the apex court judges on social media X.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices (i) N.V. Anjaria, Chief Justice, High Court of Karnataka, (ii) Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice, High Court of Gauhati and (iii) A.S. Chandurkar, Judge, High Court of Bombay as Judges of the Supreme Court of India,” Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal wrote on social media platform X.
Apex court has now regained its full working strength of 34 judges
With the three judges taking oath as the Supreme Court judges, the apex court has now regained its full working strength of 34 judges, including the chief justice of India. However, there will be a fresh vacancy in the next month in the top court as Justice Bela M Trivedi is set to superannuate on June 9.
The names of the three judges were recommended against the three existing vacancies of judges in the apex court following the superannuation of former CJI Sanjiv Khanna, and Justices Abhay S Oka and Hrishikesh Roy.
