Chamoli: In an era where extravagant weddings are the norm, Chamoli District Magistrate Dr. Sandeep Tiwari has set an example by opting for a simple and meaningful ceremony.
His wedding to Dr. Pooja, an Assistant Professor at Sushila Tiwari Medical College Hospital in Haldwani, was attended by only 30 close family members and colleagues, with no pomp, no lavish decorations, and no grand festivities.
A wedding without show-off
Despite being an arranged marriage, the couple chose to keep the event intimate, focusing on tradition and values rather than grandeur. The wedding took place at the Chamoli Marriage Court, followed by rituals at the government residence. Later, the newlyweds offered prayers at Gopinath Temple, marking the beginning of their married life with spiritual blessings.
Dr. Tiwari’s decision to keep the wedding simple was driven by his belief that marriage is not just a union of two individuals but of two families and ideas. He emphasized that faith and understanding matter more than extravagant celebrations, a sentiment echoed by temple priest Chandi Prasad Tiwari, who praised the DM’s approach as inspiring for the youth.
Duty comes first
What makes this wedding even more remarkable is that Dr. Tiwari took only three days off for the ceremony, ensuring that his administrative responsibilities were not disrupted. With the Char Dham Yatra in full swing, he chose to stay at his headquarters, ready to address any urgent matters related to the pilgrimage.
His commitment to duty reflects his dedication to public service, a trait that has made him popular among the people of Chamoli. Known for his pro-people approach, he has been actively addressing grievances, even providing food and travel assistance to complainants from remote villages.
A life of service
Tiwari, originally from Almora, comes from a medical background, having worked as an ENT specialist before joining the administrative services. He took charge as Chamoli’s District Magistrate on September 7, 2024, after serving as Managing Director of Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam and Chief Development Officer in Nainital.
His leadership style has influenced other officers, encouraging them to adopt a more accessible and responsive approach to governance. His anti-corruption measures have also led to greater accountability, ensuring that public concerns are addressed efficiently.
A message for society
Dr. Tiwari’s wedding serves as a powerful message that marriage is about values, not extravagance. In a time when lavish weddings often overshadow the essence of commitment, his decision to prioritize simplicity and duty has resonated with many. As social media buzzes with admiration for his humble wedding, it is clear that his actions have left a lasting impact on those who believe in meaningful traditions over materialistic displays.
