New Delhi: “Operation Sindoor was conceptualised to punish Pahalgam attack perpetrators. Several terror hubs were decimated,” said DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai during a press briefing on Opeartion Sindoor on Sunday.
“Twenty-six innocent lives were prematurely terminated at Pahalgam on April 22. When you combine those horrific scenes and pain of families that the nation witnessed with numerous other recent terrorist strikes on armed forces and defenceless civilians, we knew the time had arrived to make yet another statement of our resolve of our nation,” he pointed out.
Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said that nine terrorist camps — some in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK) and others in Pakistan’s Punjab province — were identified by Indian intelligence agencies as active and inhabited. Nefarious places such as Muridke, the hub center of the Lashkar-e-Taiba has over the years bred infamous characters such as Ajmal Kasab and the likes of David Headley.
Each location was meticulously analysed — its layout, construction, and surrounding terrain — to determine the most effective way to neutralise it. Surveillance drones provided confirmation footage, and India ensured it had clear evidence of hitting its intended targets, he added.
Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said “…Those strikes across those nine terror hubs left more than 100 terrorists killed, including high value targets such as Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf and Mudasir Ahmed that were involved in the hijack of IC814 and the Pulwama blast.
