New Delhi: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana is grappling with a significant internal crisis, sparked by a leaked letter from party MLC Kavitha. The letter, penned to her father and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), details grievances about perceived targeting and sabotage within the party. The public emergence has exposed deep-seated family tensions, involving KCR, his son and working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), and his nephew, former finance minister Harish Rao.
Kavitha’s letter, dated May 2nd, expressed anger not only at the alleged mistreatment but also at the leak itself. She stated, “If the letter written to our party leader has been made public, who is behind it? Need to think about it. KCR is God. But there are demons around KCR… They are causing damage.” This strongly worded statement highlights the severity of the situation and the breakdown of trust within the party’s leadership.
KTR, despite facing direct accusations within the letter, has maintained a notable silence, seemingly adhering to KCR’s reported directive to let the matter subside. However, the party’s attempts at damage control have been somewhat overshadowed by Kavitha’s actions. She has actively engaged in strengthening her organisation, Telangana Jagruthi. This organisation, focused on women’s empowerment and social development, has seen the appointment of presidents for five wings: Mahila (Women), Youth, Students, Legal, and a Hyderabad convener for the Youth wing. Significantly, all appointees are reportedly from the backwards classes. Further appointments at the district and state levels are expected shortly.
This parallel activity, coupled with the unresolved accusations, raises significant concerns about the BRS’s future. While senior leaders like Damodar Rao and Gandra Venkat Rao have attempted to mediate, the situation remains volatile. The question remains whether this internal conflict will lead to a formal split within the BRS, potentially impacting Telangana’s political landscape considerably. The ongoing developments will be closely watched as the party navigates this critical juncture.
