Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Police have instructed bar owners to ensure that people who get drunk have a driver to return to their homes or the bar owners to arrange for drivers to drive drunkards who don’t have a driver. According to the police department, the owners and administrators of the bars must ensure that those who come to the bars in Coimbatore in their vehicle must be accompanied by their driver.
Coimbatore Police introduce new rules for bars
“Driving under the influence of alcohol is illegal and a reckless act. Various awareness campaigns and press releases have already been given to motorists and the public by the Coimbatore Police Department.
In the last 3 days from August 23rd to 25th, a total of 178 people have been booked for drunken driving, including 126 two-wheeler users, and 52 four-wheeler users, including 18 luxury cars.
The Coimbatore Police said the bar establishments also should carefully monitor the people who come to their pubs to see if they are using any other drugs and whether the person who comes to drink is of the appropriate age.
They are advised to inform the police department of the concerned police station immediately if the behavior of the drinker is suspicious. CCTV cameras should be installed inside and outside all bars and parking areas. It should be monitored and maintained daily for its smooth functioning.
Coimbatore Police take steps to curb Drunk Driving
CCTV recordings should be kept in reserve for at least one month. It should be handed over to the police on demand. It is informed that if the management of the concerned pub fails to take the above precautions and any law and order problem arises due to it, legal action will be taken against the management of the concerned pub and action will be taken to cancel the license of the pub, the Coimbatore police said.
on public notice, the city police said all motorists should know that drunk driving is a punishable offense under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. A first-time drink-driving case will be charged Rs. 10,000 or imprisonment of up to 6 months or both. A penalty of up to 15,000 or imprisonment of up to 2 years or both for the second-time offenders.
