The civil aviation ministry, in its December statement, said the objective of transforming Surat airport into an international facility is not only to serve as a gateway for global travelers but also to serve as an import-export hub for the thriving diamond and textile industries. The operations also have to be streamlined. This strategic decision is expected to unlock unprecedented economic potential, establish Surat as a significant player in the international aviation landscape and usher in a new era of prosperity in the region.
According to the ministry, granting international status to Surat Airport is of great importance in enhancing economic growth, attracting foreign investment and strengthening diplomatic relations. The expected growth in both passenger traffic and cargo operations with the airport’s international designation is seen as an important driver for regional growth.
