Super Mario Balotelli to make Serie A comeback with Genoa -Reports

New Delhi: Mario Balotelli is on the verge of a remarkable return to Serie A, with Genoa reportedly finalising a deal for the 34-year-old striker. According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio and Sky Sport Italia, the club has scheduled a medical for Balotelli on Monday, paving the way for his comeback to Italian football after months as a free agent.

The former Italy international has been searching for a new club since leaving Adana Demirspor, where he managed to score seven goals in 16 league appearances before departing.

Balotelli has turned down offers from abroad in favour of pursuing what he describes as a “dream” return to Serie A. Known for his time at top clubs like Inter Milan, Manchester City, Liverpool, and AC Milan, Balotelli is keen to make an impact. Despite his turbulent career, which has included ups and downs on and off the pitch, he believes he still has what it takes to shine in the league, famously declaring that he could “fu**ing smash” it.

Genoa, currently struggling in 18th place in the Serie A standings, hopes Balotelli can boost their attacking options. His contract will reportedly be short-term, lasting until the end of the 2024-25 season, with a salary in the range of €200,000-€300,000. This reduced wage reflects the club’s financial challenges after the collapse of 777 Partners, necessitating careful spending.

Head coach Alberto Gilardino, a former teammate of Balotelli’s on the national team, has been a key advocate for the signing. Despite a rocky start to the season for Genoa, Gilardino’s push for Balotelli’s inclusion indicates a belief in his ability to help turn the club’s fortunes around. As Balotelli prepares to don the Genoa jersey, all eyes will be on him to deliver crucial performances in the battle for Serie A survival.
