Chandigarh: In a major development, the Jathedar’s of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Monday pronounced religious punishment Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal, and his late ther, former CM Prakash Singh Badal , who was earlier honoured with ‘Fakhr-e-Qaum’ by the religious body.

Notably, Prakash Singh Badal was the Punjab CM at the time when cases related to sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib took place in the state. Pronouncing the decision, Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh of Sri Akal Takht Sahib said, “ Sukhbir Singh Badal has confessed of calling the Jathedar Sahibs to his residence and pressurised them to pardon Gurmeet Ram Rahim. Late Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal was also involved in this. Hence, the Fakhr-e-Qaum given to Prakash Singh Badal is taken back.

As per the punishment, Sukhbir Singh Badal, along with core committee members and leaders who were cabinet members in 2015, will clean the bathrooms from 12 noon to 1 pm on 3 December.
