New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, who was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital last week for a stomach-related issue, was discharged on Thursday after receiving treatment. Gandhi was admitted to the hospital on June 15.
The 78-year-old is stable and has been discharged from the hospital, said Dr Ajay Swaroop, the chairman of the hospital. The Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson was admitted for an abdominal infection and was treated by a team of senior doctors. “Her condition has improved on conservative treatment… She will continue further treatment as an out patient and will be monitored closely,” S Nundy and Amitabh Yadav, the doctors who treated her said.
Gandhi’s discharge from the hospital coincides with his son and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s birthday. Rahul visited the hospital to pick his mother. A picture of him with Sonia and hospital staff has also surfaced.
The former Congress president and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha turned 55 on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other political leaders extended birthday greetings to Rahul Gandhi. “Birthday greetings to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life,” PM Modi said.
