‘Some hateful elements hiding in form of mob…’: Rahul Gandhi on Charkhi Dadri incident

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following a tragic incident in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, where a man was beaten to death on suspicion of eating beef.

The incident, which took place in Hansavas Khurd village on August 27, has sparked outrage across the state, with accusations of mob violence being levelled against members of the Gau Raksha Dal.

‘Those who climbed ladder of power by using hatred…’: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi accused the ruling party of fostering a climate of fear and hatred in the country. “Those who have climbed the ladder of power by using hatred as a political weapon are continuously establishing the rule of fear across the country,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi condemned the government’s inaction. He said that under BJP rule, “miscreants have got a free hand,” which has emboldened such people to carry out violent acts.

In a post on X on Sunday evening, the Congress leader spoke about the growing violence against minorities, especially Muslims, under the current administration. “Minorities, especially Muslims, are being constantly attacked in the country. The government machinery is watching as a mute spectator,” he wrote.

‘Rule of law must be established…’: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law and called for severe action against those responsible for such violence. “The rule of law should be established by taking the strictest action against such anarchist elements,” he said.

The incident, which was captured on video and surfaced on Saturday, shows two men being brutally beaten with sticks. One of the victims, accused of eating beef, later succumbed to his injuries. The attack is reportedly carried out by people associated with the Gau Raksha Dal, a group that claims to protect cows.

Rahul Gandhi, in his statement, criticised the mob for undermining the rule of law. “Some hateful elements hiding in the form of a mob are openly spreading violence challenging the rule of law. Any attack on the communal unity of India and the rights of Indians is an attack on the Constitution, which we will not tolerate at all.”

He said, “No matter how much effort the BJP makes, we will win this historic battle to unite India against hatred at any cost.”

On the other hand, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had downplayed the incident, saying that it should not be called a mob lynching. “This incident happened on suspicion of eating beef. Investigation is going on and the police is doing its job,” he said.
