New Delhi: Shillong Teer is a lottery game of Meghalaya. It is a unique game that is based on archery. The game is organised by the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association (KHASA) every day. The game is held at the Shillong Polo Stadium, and it is governed by the rules under the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act. The winner is decided by the number of arrows, or “teers,” that a participant hits at the given target.

The tickets of the lottery game can be bought from 5,000 designated counters across 11 districts in the state of Meghalaya. Each participant is given 50 arrows. The player has to shoot 30 arrows on the target in the first round and 20 arrows in the second round. The one who hits the maximum number of arrows at the target emerges as the winner. Among 13 Indian states where lottery games are legal, Meghalaya is one. The other states where lottery game is legal are West Bengal, Goa, Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh, and Manipur, among others.
