New Delhi: Shillong Teer, a unique lottery game rooted in archery, is organized by the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association (KHASA) in Meghalaya. The game, held daily at the Shillong Polo Stadium, is governed by the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act. Winners are determined by the number of arrows, or “teers,” that successfully hit the target.
Lottery tickets are sold at 5,000 authorized counters across 11 districts in Meghalaya. In each round, participants start with 50 arrows, aiming to hit 30 in the first round and 20 in the second. The player with the most successful hits is declared the winner. Meghalaya is one of 13 Indian states where lotteries are legal, alongside Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Goa, Nagaland, Manipur, and others.
