New Delhi: Shillong Teer, a unique lottery game in Meghalaya, revolves around archery and is organized by the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association (KHASA). The game is held daily at the Shillong Polo Stadium and operates under the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act. Winners are determined by the number of arrows, or “teers,” that successfully strike the target.
Lottery tickets are sold at 5,000 designated counters across 11 districts in Meghalaya. Each participant starts with 50 arrows, aiming to hit 30 in the first round and 20 in the second. The player who hits the most arrows is declared the winner. Meghalaya is one of 13 Indian states where lotteries are legal, alongside Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Goa, Nagaland, Manipur among others.
