CBI opposed Indrani Mukerjea’s plea

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed Indrani Mukerjea’s plea seeking permission to travel abroad, saying this is a sensitive case and the trial in the case has come halfway and 96 witnesses have been examined.

The bench, after hearing the submissions, dismissed Indrani Mukerjea’s plea.

Indrani Mukerjea had moved the apex court challenging an order of the Bombay High Court quashing an order of a special court granting permission to her to travel abroad.

What did Indrani Mukerjea submit?

Indrani Mukerjea said in her plea before the top court that she was a British citizen and she needed to visit the United Kingdom and Spain for making necessary changes and amendments and taking care of pending work there which cannot be transacted without her personal presence. She further said that her presence was necessary for the activation of a digital certificate, which was a must for all relevant work and administration in Spain.

Indrani Mukerjea was arrested in the murder case of her daughter in 2015

Indrani Mukerjea was arrested in the case of her daughter Sheena Bora’s alleged murder in August 2015 and she is currently out on bail. She is facing trial for the alleged murder of her daughter before a special court in Mumbai. Peter Mukerjea, who is a former media baron and former husband of Indrani Mukerjea, was also arrested in the case for allegedly being a part of the conspiracy linked to the murder.

All accused in the Sheena Boa’s murder case are currently out on bail.
