‘She got tired by the end, poor thing’, says Sonia Gandhi after President Murmu’s Parliament speech

New Delhi: In a conversation with Rahul Gandhi while addressing media, Congress MP Sonia Gandhi said that the President appeared “tired” during her speech. “The President was getting very tired by the end… She could hardly speak, poor thing,” said Sonia Gandhi.

This remark of Sonia Gandhi comes after President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint session of both Houses of Parliament. During her address, President Murmu outlined several key initiatives and measures the government has implemented to improve the lives of citizens, particularly focusing on tribal welfare, youth employment, healthcare, and women’s empowerment. She also highlighted the country’s progress in digital technology, infrastructure and national security.

President Murmu’s speech focuses on key govt initiatives

In her address, President Murmu focused on key government initiatives aimed at improving the lives of citizens. She emphasized the government’s efforts to uplift tribal communities, announcing the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, a new scheme benefiting five crore tribal people.

The President also outlined the government’s focus on youth education and employment, saying special measures are in place to ensure better opportunities for the younger generation. She highlighted the expansion of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme for senior citizens, offering coverage for six crore citizens aged 70 and above.

Women’s empowerment was another key area, with the President noting the target of creating three crore ‘Lakhpati didi’—financially independent women entrepreneurs.

President Murmu lauds India’s success with UPI system

On digital technology, President Murmu praised India’s success with the UPI system, which has made India a global leader in digital transactions. She also addressed cybersecurity, stressing the importance of strengthening defenses against digital fraud and cyber threats.

Infrastructure developments such as the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link and the growth of India’s metro network were also highlighted. Additionally, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening national security and promoting self-reliance in defense.
