New Delhi: In a significant public address in Washington D.C., senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor delivered a strong message to Pakistan regarding terrorism and Indias unwavering resolve. Tharoor, who was leading an eight-member all-party delegation on a five-country tour of the Western Hemisphere, underscored India’s commitment to peace but warned of a resolute response to any future acts of aggression.
This address followed a recent terror attack, the details of which were not explicitly specified during the event, but the context heavily implied it was the Pahalgam attack referenced in the video description. Tharoor’s comments provided insight into India’s strategic position, its relationship with Pakistan, and the challenges posed by cross-border terrorism.
The address took an unexpected turn when Tharoor’s son, journalist Ishaan Tharoor, posed a question regarding the evidence used by India to establish Pakistan’s culpability in the attack. This candid exchange between father and son added a personal dimension to the serious diplomatic issue at hand.
In response to his sons query, Tharoor outlined the rationale behind Indias assessment, highlighting several key points: a thirty-seven-year pattern of similar attacks coupled with Pakistani denials; the immediate claim of responsibility by the Resistance Front, a known Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy; and intelligence data pointing to Pakistani involvement and the attendance of Pakistani military and police officials at the funerals of the perpetrators. He cited intelligence indicating the involvement of Pakistani nationals and those trained in Pakistan.
He emphasised that India would not undertake a military operation without substantial evidence. While acknowledging the complexities of the India-Pakistan relationship and the significant role China plays in supporting Pakistan, including through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),
Tharoor stated that India has maintained open communication even with its adversaries. Despite the tensions, including the Galwan incident of 2020, India continues to seek understanding and cooperation while prioritising its growth and development.
