Scindia Royal Family upholds 300-year-old tradition at Ujjain’s Shahi Sawari

At the Shahi Sawari (Royal Procession) program, Gwalior’s royal heir Mahan Aryaman Scindia and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia were present.

  • The rituals and worship were performed with full tradition.
  • The royal procession was carried out amid a crowd of lakhs.
  • The Gwalior royal family has been upholding this 300-year-old tradition with pride and devotion.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, the 14th descendant of the Scindia royal lineage, also fulfilled this tradition in Ujjain—one that began during the Scindia era. In 1732, nearly 300 years ago, Ranoji Scindia of the royal family restored the Mahakaleshwar Temple. After almost 500 years of closure, the temple was reopened and the royal procession of Lord Mahakal resumed. The Simhastha Kumbh was also revived after 500 years. From that time, it became customary for a member of the Scindia family to participate in Lord Mahakal’s procession— a tradition the family continues to this day.

Earlier today, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Mahan Aryaman Scindia first landed in Indore, where they attended the MPCA Annual Award Show at Brilliant Convention Centre, behind Bapat Hospital.
