New Delhi: In a major announcement ahead of Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced a monthly payment to temple priests and Granthis in the national capital.

As part of the ‘Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana’, eligible candidates will be given an honourium of Rs 18,000 per month.

“Today I am making an important announcement regarding a scheme. The name of the scheme is Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana. Under this, there is a provision to give an honorarium to the priests of temples and the ‘granthis’ of the Gurudwara. They will be given an honorarium of about Rs 18,000 per month,” said Kejriwal.

‘They (priests and Granthis) never paid attention to their family and we never paid attention to them,” added Kejriwal.

The announcement comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, with AAP seeking to retain power for a fourth consecutive term.

Kejriwal to visit Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place

During the media briefing on Monday, Kejriwal said he will visit the Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place on Tuesday to oversee the registration process for priests there.

Although, there has not been an official announcement, but the voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly is likely to be held in February next year. While AAP has already announced the list of its all candidates for the 70 seats, BJP is yet to release its list of candidates.

Sanjay Singh alleges BJP deleting names of Purvanchal voters in Delhi

AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Monday claimed that BJP was deliberately deleting names of voters from Purvanchal from the voters’ list in Delhi. Singh said that BJP has launched a campaign to remove Purvanchal voters including his wife from the list.
