Road Safety Summit kicks off in Nagpur with a call for safer roads, and stronger businesses

New Delhi: In India, a single truck accident can do more than disrupt a journey — it can derail the livelihood of a truck driver and destabilise an entire transport business. Recognising the far-reaching implications of road mishaps, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, in collaboration with TV9 Network, has launched an impactful campaign: “Trucking Into The Future – Safer Always.” The mission? To champion safer journeys for truckers and fortify the very backbone of India’s transport economy.

As part of this nationwide initiative, Road Safety Summits are being organised across four major cities, bringing together key voices from the logistics and transportation ecosystem. The journey began with a powerful start in Nagpur, a city deeply entrenched in India’s commercial transport map.

A Strong Opening in Nagpur

The inaugural summit was held on April 10, 2025 at Radisson Blu, Nagpur, and witnessed an inspiring convergence of regional transporters, logistics players, and policy influencers. Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Dr Vipin Itankar, Collector and District Magistrate of Nagpur, participated in an engaging Fireside Chat on Road Safety — emphasising the collective responsibility of government, industry, and drivers in making Indian roads safer.

Dr Vipin emphasised that road safety is a collective responsibility, involving not only the administration but also citizens, engineers, and both technical and non-technical solutions. ‘We are working towards a zero-fatality Nagpur by using AI data to identify high-risk zones and implementing targeted solutions swiftly,’ he said. ‘I also deeply appreciate the campaign’s focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of truck drivers.

The event was also attended by senior industry leaders, including Mayank Raizada, GM & Head – Brand Marketing (Trucks), Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles and Vishal Barbate, Dealer Proprietor, Arya Motors.

Driving the Dialogue on Safety

The summit featured an exclusive presentation by Pranav Shroff, Marketing Head – HCV Trucks Business, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, outlining Tata Motors’ commitment to road safety and the innovations shaping its next-generation truck range. Shroff highlighted, ‘Today, trucks like the Prima, which was launched a decade ago, meet international safety standards and are equipped with advanced features. We’re committed to making this cutting-edge technology more accessible so that a greater number of transporters can benefit from it.”

A powerful panel discussion followed, delving into the real-world safety challenges faced by truck drivers and the cascading impact of accidents on transporter businesses. The panel featured prominent voices from the logistics sector:
Narendra Mishra – Om Roadlines
Prahlad Agarwal – Director, Miles of Smiles Logistics
Prakash Gavli – President, Mahasangh
Ashish Sharma – Jai Balaji Logistics

The session was moderated by Karuna Shankar Sharma from TV9 Network, with Girish Mirchandani, Owner of Transtopics, co-anchoring the discussion. The panel addressed critical issues, including driver fatigue, the importance of prioritizing truck drivers in policy and compensation decisions, and the need for ongoing upskilling in road safety.

Honouring commitment to road safety

In a gesture of appreciation, over 50 transporters from Nagpur District were felicitated for their dedication to implementing robust safety protocols within their operations. Their leadership in adopting best practices has helped ensure safer roads for drivers and a more reliable ecosystem for India’s logistics chain.

The road ahead

With Nagpur setting the tone, the “Trucking Into The Future – Safer Always” campaign will continue its journey across key cities, sparking important conversations and recognizing safety champions within the industry. By bringing together government authorities, transporters, fleet owners, and thought leaders, Tata Motors and TV9 Network are building a powerful movement that transcends road safety — it’s about economic resilience, trust, and a shared responsibility for the future. As Tata Motors’ latest range of technologically advanced and safety-first trucks was showcased at the event, fleet operators had the opportunity to experience firsthand what future-ready transport truly looks like.

One safe mile at a time

The road from Nagpur is just the beginning of a journey towards a safer, more sustainable future. “Trucking Into The Future – Safer Always” is not merely sparking important conversations on road safety, it is laying the foundation for a broader, transformative movement. This movement is rooted in trust, innovation, and a collective responsibility to create a safer transportation environment for all.

Through the strategic partnership between Tata Motors and TV9 Network, this vision is being brought to life. Together, they are working tirelessly to ensure that every journey on Indian roads is empowered by cutting-edge technology, every life is safeguarded through innovative safety measures, and the very foundation of India’s transport economy is made more resilient, efficient, and safer—one safe mile at a time.
