Rishabh Pant becomes India’s second-highest ranked Test batter

New Delhi: On back of a fabulous 99-run knock in the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has gained considerable spots in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Wednesday. The prolific batter has climbed three positions to become the number 6th ranked Test batter. Pant has become the highest-ranked wicketkeeper-batter currently in the Test rankings.

Pant, interestingly, also becomes India’s second-highest ranked Test batter after young gun Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is on fourth spot with 780 rating points. Pant has gone past Usman Khawaja, star India batter Virat Kohli and Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne in the latest rankings list with a total of 745 rating points.

Jaiswal, Pant and Kohli in top-10

Jaiswal, Pant and Kohli are the three Indian players who continue to be in the top-10 of batting rankings. Kohli, who scored a brilliant 70-run knock in the second innings of the first Test against the Kiwis, is placed on the 8th position with 720 rating points in his kitty. Indian sensation Sarfaraz Khan, who smashed a sensational 150-run knock in the first Test match, is on the 53rd spot with 509 rating points.

Meanwhile, other than the Indian players, Joe Root continues to lead the chart of the Test batting rankings with 917 rating points while Kiwi veteran Kane Williamson is second on the list with 821 points. Harry Brook is on the third spot while Steven Smith sits at the 5th position of the rankings for batters.

For the Indian and Kiwi players, there’s a chance to rise up up further in the Test rankings in the next week as well keeping in mind the upcoming matches of the India-New Zealand Test series.
