‘Revenge for Pahalgam attack’: Biriyani shop worker shot dead in Agra, viral video shows man claiming responsibility

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a restaurant worker employed in a biryani shop in Agra has been shot dead and his colleague has been injured in a firing. The dead worker, identified as Gulfam Ali, and his colleague worked at Shahid Ali Chicken Biryani. As per reports, the incident took place on the intervening night of April 23 through April 24. Reportedly, three men on a scooter opened fire at Gulfam and his co-worker Saif Ali. While Gulfam was shot dead, the bullet grazed the neck of Saif Ali.

Hours after the killing took place, a video became viral on the social media in which two men can be seen claiming responsibility for the crime. They called the act a revenge for the Pahalgam terror attack. The purported video shows a man saying that two people, for whom he uses a religious slang, have been killed and it has been done by Kshatriya Gau Raksha Dal. The man in has two pistols and a knife strapped with him while the other man also has weapons.

In the video, the man can be heard saying in Hindi that he promises to take revenge for the killing of 26 with 2,600. To those who are wondering, he is referring to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 innocent people were killed by terrorists. As per a report by the Times of India, the name of the man who claimed to be killer is Manoj Chaudhary, while the identity of his companion remains unknown. However, it must be noted that the video’s authenticity has not been checked.

No such group in Agra: Police

The TOI report states that local police has dismissed the video and said there is no such operational cow vigilante group named Kshatriya Gau Raksha Dal in Agra. They said that the video on social media is apparently a publicity stunt, and an FIR has been filed and a probe is ongoing. The police commissioner of Agra, Deepak Kumar, has said that the killing happened after a quarrel over the food quality at the biryani restaurant, and the video has been used by two men as publicity stunt.

According to the TOI report, Kumar said it has come up in the probe that the two men are not Kshatriyas, and it is doubtful whether they are ‘gau rakshaks’. He added that it appears like a publicity stunt and CCTV footage shows four individuals were present at the crime scene and the police has arrested a suspect.
