New Delhi: Amid the raging storm over the Meghalaya honeymoon murder, another shocking incident has come to the light in which a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district has been arrested for killing her husband with her lover’s help. After that, they deposed his body in the Rapti river.
Notably, the couple got married 18 years ago and has a son whose age is 12. According to the police, the accused Sangeeta Devi is 35 years old and her husband Kannan Kumar is 48 years old. She gave her husband poisoned prasad while the couple was returning from a temple visit. Her lover, Anil Shukla alias Vivek is eight years younger than Sangeeta. Together, they pushed an unconscious Kannan off a 25-ft-high bridge into the Rapti near Kodari in Balrampur on June 2.
What happened after that?
After perpetrating the crime, Sangeeta went to the Dhebarua police station on June 5 to file a missing person complaint. For the next three days, she travelled with Anil and did not give any concrete answer when she was questioned later.
Surveillance on her mobile location found that Sangeeta was with Anil on June 2. When she was confronted with this information, Sangeeta confessed to the crime and also the involvement of her lover. The couple’s 12-year-old son also told police, “Papa went out with mummy and Anil uncle, but only papa returned.” Babu Lal, the brother of Kannan, suspected that there was something fishy due to the strained relationship between the couple, also filed a complaint in which he suspected the murder of Kannan and accused Sangeeta of the crime.
On June 10, the body was found as a skeleton and it was identified based on dress. Based on Babu Lal’s complaint, police arrested both Sangeeta and Anil. As per Police circle officer of Shohratgarh, Sujeet Rai, who is supervising the case, Sangeeta and Anil met five years ago while traveling on a train. He said, “Their affair deepened, and Anil began frequenting her house. Though Kannan grew suspicious and confronted his wife, she dismissed the allegations as mere friendship. However Sangeeta and Anil eventually planned the murder to remove Kannan from the equation. She tried to mislead the investigation but broke down under sustained questioning.” Both the accused have been sent to jail.
