New Delhi: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Defence Minister Gen Nakatani New Delhi on Monday. During the meeting, the two leaders condemned terrorism in all its forms and emphasised on the need for global cooperation to tackle terror.
Rajnath Singh also condemned Pakistan’s state policy of cross-border terrorism against India perpetrated through state and non-state actors. The Indian Defence Minister stated that such attacks destabilise regional peace and security.
Rajnath Singh also called for a unified stand against terrorism and the state-sponsored actions that perpetuate it.
Japan’s condoles Pahalgam terror victims
Meanwhile, the Japanese Defense Minister expressed condolences for the ghastly terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22. Gen Nakatani offered his full support to India.
Strategic and Global Partnership
The leaders from the two nations also reviewed the defence and security pillars of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The two nations reaffirmed their commitment towards strengthening the bilateral relations and contributing towards regional peace.
They also welcomed the growing diversity and frequency of defence exercises and exchanges between the two countries and agreed to enhance the scope and complexity of these engagements. The two leaders also agreed to add new dimensions to the robust maritime cooperation between India and Japan.
Defence pacts
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh outlined the capability of Indian defence industry particularly its potential to collaborate with the Japanese side on new areas including Tank engines and Aero Engines.
Singh also highlighted the capabilities in the areas of maintenance repair and overhaul operations. Both sides agreed to enhance industry cooperation, including exploring collaboration in niche domains such as automation and Artificial Intelligence. They also decided to take forward the cooperation in emerging areas like Cyber and Space.
