Kolkata: The murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi has taken a new turn, with previously unknown details unearthed by investigators shedding light on the murky areas. The probe into the killing of the 29-year-old Indore businessman during his honeymoon in Meghalaya has thrown up a new name.
Sanjay Verma, the new piece in the puzzle, has been identified as a person who had extensive contact with Raja’s wife and prime accused in this case, Sonam Raghuvanshi, over the telephone. Interestingly, Sonam was in contact with him both before and after her marriage to Raja.
The police, after scanning call data records, found that between March 1 and March 25, Sonam and Sanjay exchanged 119 calls. At present, Sanjay’s phone is currently switched off as per reports.
‘She used to do black magic’
Meanwhile, Ashok Raghuvanshi, the father of Raja Raghuvanshi has alleged that Sonam believed in ‘black magic’ and might have used it on Raja. He said, “On Sonam’s behest, Raja hung a bundle-like thing on the main door of our house. Sonam had told Raja that by hanging it, the household will not be affected by any evil eye. After Raja’s murder, I feel Sonam believes in ‘tantra-mantra’ and she used it on my son. After the murder, this bundle was removed from the house.”
Notably, Raja and Sonam got married on May 11 and went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20. They went missing on May 23 and Raja’s body was found on June 2 in a gorge in Meghalaya. Police arrested Sonam in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur on June 9. Later, her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three others were also arrested.
Police have stated that Vishal Singh Chauhan, one of three hitmen Sonam hired for the crime, first struck Raja with a machete. The murder took place at the Wei Sawdong Falls. As per reports, Sonam was present at the time and fled the scene when her husband began to bleed and scream. She returned to the scene after Raja had died. The other two hitmen have been identified as Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi, and Raj Kushwaha allegedly hired them. According to the police, Sonam even helped them to dispose of the body.
