New Delhi: The national capital on Tuesday witnessed a heavy downpour, bringing relief to from scorching heat. The torrential weather was accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-70 km/h.
Videos of heavy downpour has gone viral on social media. A video has also gone viral showing Delhi airport staff mopping the floor and collecting water in buckets at Terminal 1 .
According to ‘The Times of India’, at least 12 flights were disrupted between 3 pm and 4 pm due to the extreme weather conditions. Several areas, including the Secretariat, reported heavy waterlogging, resulting in significant traffic disruptions.

Air India issues warning
Air India issued a travel advisory warning passengers about flight disruptions and route diversions due to the severe weather conditions of Delhi.
Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2 degree celsius, that is 3.8 degrees lesser than the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature recorded was 28 degree celsius, which is 1.5 degrees above normal.
Orange alert in Delhi
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Wednesday, that will remain in effect till Thursday. Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds, with speed of 50- 60 kmph are expected during the night.
Areas around Indira Gandhi International Airport, like Palam and Mahipalpur, also reported disruption in traffic as vehicles struggled to move through flooded roads.
The downpour not only brought respite from the heat but also signaled the gradual advance of the Southwest Monsoon across northern and central India.
