New Delhi: Between 2018 and mid‑2025, Indian Railways undertook a dramatic transformation of rail infrastructure across Northeast India. 2. Full electrification of Rajdhani route, Tinsukia–Dibrugarh section (2025)

IRCON completed electrification across 480 route km in the Lumding–Tinsukia divisions, culminating in the first fully electric Rajdhani train departing Dibrugarh to New Delhi eliminating traction changes and slashing travel time  .

3. Agthori–Kamakhya doubling and second Saraighat rail‑cum‑road bridge (underway from 2025)

A ₹1,473 crore project to build a new Saraighat bridge with two railway tracks below and a three‑lane road above. This 7 km section will vastly improve line capacity and regional mobility when commissioned by 2029  .

4. Haibargaon Station makeover under Amrit Bharat (2025)

Nagaon’s Haibargaon became the first Assam station redeveloped under the scheme. The ₹15.85 crore revamp blends modern facilities with Assamese heritage designs, boosting tourism access to Kaziranga and Laokhowa  .

5. Bairabi–Sairang line, Mizoram (2025)

The 51 km broad‑gauge extension from Bairabi to Sairang now brings rail within 20 km of Aizawl. With tunnels, bridges, and near-complete physical progress, it elevates Mizoram as the fourth northeastern capital to gain connectivity  .

6. Dhansiri–Zubza (Dimapur‑Kohima) line, Nagaland (ongoing)

The 82.5 km railway is under phased construction, aiming for completion by December 2029. It links Nagaland’s capital via Dimapur, unlocking economic and social opportunities  .

7. Sivok–Rangpo line to Sikkim (ongoing)

Sikkim’s first rail link emerging via a 44 km stretch from New Jalpaiguri to Rangpo, later extending to Gangtok and Nathu La pass by 2027.

8. Jiribam–Imphal rail link, Manipur (ongoing)

This 111 km broad‑gauge line passing through rugged terrain is slated for completion by 2026. More than 70% consists of tunnels- connecting Manipur’s capital with the national grid.

9. Jan Shatabdi Express between Agartala (Tripura) and Jiribam (Manipur)

These two key states are connected with a Jan Shatabdi Express running between the two stations, cutting travel time significantly.

 10. Doubling and safety upgrades across existing corridors

Projects like New Bongaigaon-Agthori and New Bongaigaon-Goalpara-Kamakhya improve track capacity. Hundreds of ROBs/RUBs installed, unmanned crossings eliminated, and solar energy deployed at stations under the ‘Go‑Green’ initiative . These milestones collectively represent rapid progress in electrification, cross‑border links, station modernisation and strategic infrastructure.
