Punjab & Haryana HC postpones Chandigarh mayor election, to be held after Jan 29

New Delhi: The Punjab & Haryana High Court has postponed Chandigarh mayor election that was scheduled to be held for January 24.

The mayor election will now be held after January 29. The court has also directed the Chandigarh administration to issue a fresh notification for the election.

The petition to postpone the election was filed by Kuldeep Kumar, a joint candidate fielded by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, in the Punjab & Haryana High Court.

In his petition, Kuldeep Kumar argued that his tenure extends till February, but the Chandigarh administration issued a notification to conduct the election before his term ends. Hearing the petition, the High Court issued the directions to postpone the mayor election.
