Amritsar: At least 5 people were killed in an explosion in a firecracker factory in Punjab’s Muktsar Sahib on Friday. Reports said that at least 25 people were injured in the tragic accident.

Labourers trapped

A report in News18 said that the 2-storey building which housed the firecracker factory collapsed due to the impact of the blast. Several labourers working inside the factory were reportedly trapped inside the building, following the collapse.

The administration has launched a rescue operation. PTI reported that the factory where the blast occurred is located on Singhawali-Kotli road in Sri Muktsar Sahib. Lambi’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jaspal Singh, told the news agency that an investigation is underway to find out the exact cause of the blast.
