New Delhi: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party on Tuesday, accusing it of repeatedly misusing the Constitution and pursuing anti-people policies throughout India’s post-Independence history.
In a social media post, Joshi highlighted that Article 356 — which allows the dismissal of state governments — was invoked over 125 times by Congress, with nearly 50 instances under Indira Gandhi’s rule between 1966 and 1977 alone. He alleged that these dismissals primarily targeted opposition-led state governments.

The minister also accused Congress of disrespecting Dr B R Ambedkar, noting that the party failed to honour him with the Bharat Ratna — a recognition only conferred in 1990 by a BJP-led government. Joshi further claimed that awarding Narayan S Kajrolkar the Padma Bhushan in 1970 was an attempt to insult Ambedkar.
Raising concerns about recent political statements, Joshi criticised Karnataka deputy chief minister’s remarks about changing the Constitution to benefit a particular community, calling it contrary to constitutional values. He also accused Congress leaders of disrespecting India by making anti-national comments on foreign soil and aligning with Pakistan’s narrative on issues of national security.
“Such actions and threats reflect Congress’s disregard for the Constitution and the nation’s interests,” Joshi asserted.
