New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the site of the tragic Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash that killed 241 people in Ahmedabad.
The Prime Minister arrived at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and visited the crash site in Meghaninagar area of the city. He was accompanied by Bhupendra Patel, the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

“Stunned by the tragedy, thoughts with everyone affected by it”: PM Modi
PM Modi has said that he was stunned by this tragedy. “It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected,” he said in a post on “X” on Friday.

PM Modi, also, met the lone survivor, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh at the hospital and held discussions with officials to coordinate the relief efforts actively. The Centre has formed a high level committee to probe the crash.
Ramesh, the survivor, is a British national.

On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu visited the site to oversee the rescue operations.
The deadliest air mishap
The ill-fated flight AI-171 was headed to Gatwick airport in London, with 241 people on board. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 23 Portuguese and 1 Canadian on board the flight.
Shortly after the takeoff on June 12, the pilot gave a “MAYDAY” distress call and soon after the aircraft crashed into the doctors’ hostel near the airport.
Among the deceased was former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani. Both pilots, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder, lost their lives in the accident.
Air India pledged full cooperation with the families of the deceased and announced a compensation of Rs 1-crore for them.
