New Delhi: For the first time in ten years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet with staff representatives from the national-level Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) for Union government employees apart from the officials from the Personnel Ministry.
The Personnel Ministry has extended an invitation to JCM Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra and other JCM staff members to attend a meeting with Prime Minister Modi at his official residence on Saturday. A key topic on the agenda is the potential reinstatement of the old pension scheme, The Hindu reported.
Mishra said that the staff representatives had requested this meeting with the Prime Minister. “We are in ongoing discussions with the government on various issues, and we sought the opportunity to address these directly with the Prime Minister,” Mishra said. He said that the restoration of the old pension scheme remains a significant unresolved matter, adding, “We intend to bring this up during the meeting with the Prime Minister.”
Strike postponed after talks
Earlier, unions representing Union government employees and those from Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) had planned to launch an indefinite strike starting May 1. However, the strike was postponed after discussions with the government. The unions have been pressing for the reintroduction of the old pension scheme, opposing the privatisation and corporatisation of PSUs and advocating for the filling of vacant positions across various government departments.
