New Delhi: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, addressed the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 in Delhi on Friday and praised the major progress seen in the northeast over the past ten years. He said the region, once overlooked, is now on the path of strong economic growth and development.
Scindia said Northeast has been growing at a fast pace, with a 12-15% annual economic growth rate, much higher than the national average. He shared the government’s five-point plan focused on better infrastructure, tourism, sustainable farming, and promoting local industries like Muga silk, palm oil, and agarwood. These efforts, he said, are in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India self-reliant (Atmanirbhar Bharat).
He also revealed that budget support for the Northeast has increased greatly over the last decade, reaching ₹6.75 lakh crore. This, he said, has turned the region into a land of opportunities.
At the summit, Scindia spoke about the historical importance of the Northeast, especially the areas around the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers. He said these states once played a major role in trade between the East and the West. But sadly, the region remained ignored for nearly seventy years after independence.
He credited Prime Minister Modi for the positive changes. “In the last ten years, the destiny of this region has changed completely, and this has happened because of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” Scindia said.
Scindia also pointed out how infrastructure has improved. A decade ago, the region had only nine airports, and two states had none. Now, there are 17 airports, helping to boost connectivity and economic activity.
The summit aimed to attract investors from India and abroad by showcasing the potential of the Northeast and encouraging more partnerships for the region’s growth.
