New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met members of multiple delegations who had recently visited various countries to represent India’s stance against cross border terrorism and various global issues. These delegations comprised of Members of Parliament cutting across party lines, MPs and seasoned diplomats. During their brief discussions, they highlighted India’s “zero tolerance policy towards terrorism” and its commitment to “global peace and cooperation.”
Need for a strategic partnership at the international level
At the gathering, the members briefed the Prime Minister on their meetings and dialogues with political leaders across the world and their detailed discussions involving the issue of countering terrorism strategically at a global level.
They had also highlighted the growing international support for India’s commitment to combating terrorism, especially in the wake of the recent developments in the region.
The Prime Minister has lauded the efforts made by the delegates. Such visits have increasingly reflected India’s growing partnership in the global forum.
Global problem posed by terrorism
A total of 51 political leaders formed seven delegations that visited several world capitals to present India’s stance on combating terrorism in the context of Operation Sindoor. It was led by senior MPs including Shashi Tharoor, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Baijayant Panda, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Supriya Sule and Shrikanth Eknath Shinde.
It was a 10-day outreach mission coordinated by Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Kiren Rijiju. This initiative has projected a unified Indian voice on terrorism.
External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar has already met the delegations and appreciated their efforts in conveying India’s strong stance against terrorism.
The delegation informed the international community about the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam in which 26 people were killed, mostly tourists.
