New Delhi: The Opposition parties on Thursday took a jibe at the BJP government over water leakage at the new Parliament building after heavy rainfall in Delhi and said that it highlights “urgent weather resilience” issues in the new building, which was inaugurated in May last year.
Sharing a video of water leaking from the roof of the Parliament building, Congress MP Manickam Tagore wrote on X, “Paper leakage outside, water leakage inside. The recent water leakage in the Parliament lobby used by the President highlights urgent weather resilience issues in the new building, just a year after completion.”

Heavy rainfall in the city also led to severe waterlogging outside the Parliament building.
Massive waterlogging in the new Parliament building built by the Modi government at a cost of over ₹1,250 cr ! This is a huge fraud committed with taxpayers’ money.

The Congress leader also moved an adjournment motion on this issue in Lok Sabha, proposing that a specialised committee of MPs be formed to inspect the new Parliament House building thoroughly.
“I rise to address concerns following yesterday’s heavy rains, which caused water leaks inside the Parliament lobby along the path used by our President of India when entering the new Parliament building. This incident highlights the potential issues with the building’s weather resilience, just one year after its completion,” the Congress MP said.
“To address this, I propose forming a specialised committee, including all party MPs to inspect the building thoroughly. The committee will focus on the causes of the leaks, evaluate the design and materials, and recommend necessary repairs. Additionally, it should establish a maintenance protocol and ensure transparency by publicly sharing their findings. I urge also members to support this initiative to uphold the safety and integrity of our Parliament,” he added.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also took a dig at the government over the water leakage at the Parliament building and said that old building was better than the new one.
“The old Parliament was better than this, where even the old MPs could come and meet. Why not go back to the old Parliament, at least till the time the ‘water dripping program’ is going on in the new building constructed with billions of rupees,” the Kannauj MP said in a post on X.
“The public is asking whether the water leakage from every new roof built under the BJP government is a part of their well-thought-out design,” he added.

The Aam Aadmi Party also took a potshot at the BJP government, saying the Parliament which was built at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore has to now depend on a bucket worth Rs 120.
Heavy rainfall lashed Delhi on Wednesday evening throwing normal life out of gear in the national capital. The incessant downpour left several areas waterlogged and disrupted vehicular movement in the city. The inclement weather also affected air traffic as at least 10 flights scheduled to land at the Delhi airport were diverted. Airlines also warned of the possibility of more flight disruptions.
