New Delhi: The Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small arms firing across the Line of Control (LoC) on the intervening night of May 1-2. This was the 8th straight night of ceasefire violations by the neighbouring country, following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. Firing was reported from Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor areas in Jammu and Kashmir.
Army responds to firing by Pakistan troops
The Indian Army in a statement said that its troops responded strongly to the small arms fire by the Pakistan side. The response was in a calibrated and proportionate manner, they said.
The firings along the border continue even after India issued a stern warning to Pakistan regarding these repeated ceasefire violations. A report in India Today said that the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both the countries had a hotline conversation on Tuesday which was focused upon these unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Pakistan Army.
Pakistan’s initial ceasefire violations were concentrated in the Kupwara and Baramulla districts of north Kashmir. But as days progressed these moved to the Poonch sector and later the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region was also targeted. Small arms firing was also reported on several Army posts in Sunderbani and Naushera sectors of Rajouri district. The Pargwal sector of Jammu was also targeted by the Pakistani troops.
The firings along the LoC have been reported right after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty. This was done in wake of the terror attack in Pahalgam. India has also warned that it will not spare those involved in the killings of 26 tourists in the picturesque location of Pahalgam on April 22. India also asked all Pakistan nationals to leave the country and the defence several Pakistani diplomats from the Embassy in Delhi were also asked to leave at the earliest.
