Delhi: Following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pakistan Army has violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) for the 11th straight day.
The Indian Army reported that during the night of May 4-5, 2025, Pakistani posts engaged in unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor in Jammu and Kashmir.
“During the night of 04 -05 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor in J&K. The Indian Army responded promptly and proportionately,” Indian Army mentioned in statement.
These ceasefire violations mark a major disruption from the relative peace maintained since the renewed ceasefire agreement between the two countries in February 2021. The violations began just hours after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty on April 24 in response to the Pahalgam attack. Starting with small arms fire in Kupwara and Baramulla in north Kashmir, the violations quickly spread to the Poonch, Akhnoor, Sunderbani, Naushera, and Mendhar sectors, and even extended to the international border in the Jammu district.
The continued violations come despite a recent hotline conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, where India reportedly issued a warning. Pakistan has also retaliated by blocking its airspace for Indian airlines, closing the Wagah border, suspending trade with India, and warning against any attempt to divert water, considering it an “Act of War.”
